REVIEWS:-
Starting 2008, Nokia launched a new series, mostly targeting emerging markets, but also fans that could not afford the Eseries, or the more expensive Nseries devices. The new Supernova series of mobile phones is also a remake of the older devices that “amazed” Nokia fans thanks to their exchangeable covers. Almost all Supernova mobile phones are offered now with various exchangeable covers, which are meant to keep the owners interested for much longer. Even if based on mid-tech features, Supernova series devices are offered at lower prices, to attract as many potential buyers as possible. Nokia 7310 has been included in the first wave of Supernova devices, which were meant to test the handset market. Today, Nokia has 5 Supernova series mobile phones available on the market, which means that Nokia 7310 has had a certain amount of success since its debut.
Design
The candy-bar form factor is the one with the highest longevity through Nokia handsets, and the Finnish giant seems to have learned the secret recipe for its successful bar devices. For those interested in “history,” there are 2 candy-bar Supernovas, 2 sliders and 1 clamshell. Nokia 7310 Supernova can be easily included in the “classic” category in terms of design, as it doesn't stand out from the crowd because of its forms. The handset features the same “old school” bar form that Nokia took to the highest level of art. Still, without impressing too much at first glance, Nokia 7310 will eventually catch your eye only if you manage to stay with it a little longer. The device measures 106.5 x 45.4 x 12mm, and weighs 83g (including battery).
There's also a 2.5mm jack port on the top of the phone, together with a micro-USB port, whereas the charger port has been placed on the left part. The back cover of the phone is pretty thin, and made from a cheap plastic, as I have already noted above. Three loudspeakers are placed near the bottom of the back cover, and a 2 Megapixel camera on the upper part. However, this device also comes with some disadvantages, such as the lack of a dedicated camera button, and the hard to find memory card slot. The latter can be found under the back cover, so getting to it if you’re in a hurry can be a little bit hard. You can either power off the phone and pull out the back cover, or you can simply carefully take it out, so you won't move the battery.
Menu and Software
Nokia 7310 Supernova classic runs on a S40 5th Edition interface with Feature Pack 1, which is the latest user-interface coming from Nokia. If you have owned a Nokia handset before and it didn't have a Symbian OS, then this candy-bar will probably feel the same. One of the most user-friendly interfaces on the market, the S40 seems unchanged on the surface, and offers the Nokia 7310 Supernova user an excellent experience. Nothing has really changed and you'll notice the same menus, submenus and icons, even the same animation.
Communications
Nokia 7310 Supernova is fully compatible with GPRS Class 32 (88 kbps), HSCSD (57.6 kbps) EDGE Class 32 (296 / 177.6 kbps), but as benchmarks revealed, the device attained average scores in terms of data transfer speed (EDGE only 82 Kbit/s download and 49 Kbit/s upload), but that may greatly vary depending on the location and carrier.

REVIEWS:-
Nokia's E90 is the latest in its range of Communicator email phones. Like its predecessors, it has a normal numeric keypad and screen on the outside, yet opens up to reveal a larger screen and a full QWERTY keyboard.
The E90 is a brick compared to most mobiles, and is better suited to a briefcase than a pocket. It feels well made, with tough plastic that is pleasant to hold. The phone's hinge feels strong, and it opens and shuts with a solid clunk. The screen can lock halfway or fully open, but the halfway point isn't at a comfortable angle for typing when holding the phone or when it's flat on a desk.
The QWERTY keyboard is superb. The keys are surprisingly large and have some travel, so typing is easier than on any phone we've seen. The keyboard has more keys than most smartphones' QWERTY keyboards, so you can type most special characters using the Shift key and don't have to hunt around for obscure function keys.
The internal screen is also impressive. It has a high 800x352 resolution, so text and graphics are clear. It's also very wide, which makes it ideal for reading documents, while webpages just about fit without any reformatting. The web browser can cope with complicated formatting, large images and extras such as JavaScript drop-down menus. It's much better than the browser supplied with Windows Mobile smartphones. It's easy to get online with WiFi thanks to the E90's wireless networking wizard. There's both 3G and super-high-speed HSDPA for when you're away from a wireless hot spot.
You can synchronise your email, contacts and calendar with Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Organizer and Lotus Notes using the PC Suite software. The E90's email program supports POP3 and IMAP servers, but unlike HTC's TyTN II, it doesn't automatically download email settings for the most popular email providers. If you want to synchronise with a Microsoft Exchange server and use Push email, the server will need Nokia's Intellisync Wireless Email software installed.
The E90 has an integrated GPS receiver and Nokia Maps installed. If you have a GPS fix, Maps will automatically zoom in to your location. Map data is streamed over the phone's data connection and cached in the phone's storage, so you don't have to download maps that you've recently viewed.
Nokia's E90 Communicator is an immensely powerful smartphone with an excellent keyboard. It's very expensive, though, so if you want a messaging smartphone then HTC's TyTN II or Palm's Treo 500v (What's New, Shopper December 2007) are both better value.

The good: Solid and attractive build; HSDPA, Wi-Fi and A-GPS; excellent productivity tools.
The bad: Smaller battery compared with the E71; accelerometer can be a nuisance.
The bottom line: While we like the E71 better, the E66 is a great smart phone with class-leading features. If you want the functionality of a business phone without the bulk of a PDA form factor, the E66 is the phone you've been looking for.

REVIEWS:-
The N70 is the baby of Nokia's "Next Generation" N series phones that also includes the N90 camera phone, N91 music phone and N92 video phone. It's in the very familiar candybar design shape, although the screen is somewhat larger than most candybar phones. It measures in at 108.8x53x24mm with a total weight of 126g, making it a relatively light 3G camera phone.
The front display of the N70 is dominated by the large and clear 176x208 pixel display, underneath which sit the dialling and soft keys. From a buttons and switches perspective, there's really not much to see on the N70's front facing, but the rear of the phone hides more enticing functionality.
The rear of the N70 consists of a large sliding panel that moves downwards to reveal the camera lens and integrated flash. Moving the slider down automatically launches the camera application from wherever you are in the phone's operating system, making it a (groan) snap to take simple digital pictures.

If you like the N95 then you'll like the N96 because it's practically the same phone. There's HSDPA (3.5G), Wi-Fi, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera that takes as good pictures as the N95's. Unlike the N95, there's a whopping 16GB of internal memory and you can expand that up to 32GB via the microSD slot.
The N96's screen is great for viewing YouTube videos on and there's an iPlayer client for it so you can catch up with all the latest BBC content. In a very clever move, Nokia added a small stand at the back so that you can rest the N96 on a table and hold it up when you're watching a video. Another noteworthy feature is that Nokia placed a standard 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.

REVIEWS:-
Calling - Excellent
Sporting quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and EDGE, the Nokia E50 provides superb call and signal reception quality. The contacts list offers responsive while-typing contact lookup, while voice dialing and conference calling (up to 6 participants) are also duly supported. The battery life of the E50 also proved to be impressive; we measured a talk time of 5 hours and a standby time of 6 days.
Messaging - Excellent
The combination of a bright high-resolution screen and a solid casing and keypad made for comfortable message typing and reading. The messaging management of the E50 is top-notch, and with 70 MB of internal memory there's room for plenty of messages. Sadly, support for advanced business e-mail is quite limited out-of-box, but at least a USB cable is bundled. The E50 also features a durable, user-friendly five-way joystick.
Best of the rest
As many recent Nokia phones, the E50 boasts a powerful Internet browser capable of loading full-version Web sites (such as lengthy New York Times home page) with ease. The lack of 3G, however, means there's not much in the way of downloadable music or TV streaming. As for other features, the E50 includes Microsoft Office and PDF viewers which might come in handy if e-mail attachments are received, but we were more impressed by the devices powerful searching capabilities.
In the Media folder, the combination of RealPlayer, Flash Player and Music player raised our hopes for great multimedia features, although we again were disappointed by the lack of speedy video and audio streaming. However, a well-integrated 1.3-megapixel camera improves the overall multimedia impression slightly, especially thanks to its decent image quality and a nice "Images left" feature on-screen in the viewfinder.

REVIEWS:-
The good: The Nokia E75 offers a compact design while managing to fit in a full QWERTY keyboard. The smartphone ships with Nokia's new messaging client, which features push delivery for all accounts. Other highlights include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
The bad: The E75 is expensive. Call quality wasn't the best, and the dialpad on front is cramped.
The bottom line: The Nokia E75 is a nice alternative to the current crop of slate QWERTY messaging smartphones, offering a compact design without sacrificing the keyboard or e-mail capabilities. However, without carrier backing, the unlocked phone is a bit expensive.
Design
It's been a little while since we've seen something other than a slate QWERTY device in the Nokia E series, so the Nokia E75 is a refreshing change. In its closed state, the E75 looks like a regular candy-bar-style phone and measures 4.4 inches tall by 1.9 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick and weighs 4.9 ounces. While fairly compact and pocketable, the handset is a little on the hefty side, but it's made with quality material and has a nice solid construction. We also like the design better than the similar HTC S743. Nokia offers the E75 in black or red.
The E75 is a slider phone, and when you shift the front cover to the right, you'll find the full QWERTY keyboard. The sliding mechanism is smooth and feels durable. The cover locks securely into place, and the screen orientation automatically changes from portrait to landscape mode. The keyboard buttons are large and have a nonslippery texture, so we were able to type messages without major error. Our only complaint is that the keys are pretty flat; we typically like a little raise or bump to them so they're easier to press, but otherwise, we're quite happy with the E75's keyboard
Features
The Nokia E75 is powered by Nokia's S60 platform (Feature Pack 2 based on Symbian OS v9.3) platform and offers a user interface and features similar to previous E series devices. There are some minor tweaks to the UI, but the biggest difference between the E75 and the rest of the E family is e-mail. The E75 is the first S60 device to ship with the new Nokia Messaging application, which allows you to easily set up access to numerous accounts and receive real-time delivery of messages.
Nokia Messaging supports a range of e-mail clients, including Yahoo, Windows Live, Gmail, Microsoft Exchange, and IBM Lotus Notes. Setup is a snap as you simply enter your e-mail address and password; we were able to hook up both our Yahoo and Gmail accounts with no problem. Once a new e-mail arrives, you'll receive a notification on the home screen where you can open the message. However, from there you can't go directly to your in-box. Instead, you have to exit the message and then go to the e-mail app, which seems pretty circuitous to us. From a drop-down menu in your in-box, you can view your various folders and Nokia Messaging also supports HTML-formatted e-mails.
Performance
We tested the quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900; HSDPA 850/1900/2100) Nokia E75 in San Francisco using AT&T service, and call quality was mediocre. On our end, there was a slight buzz that wasn't always evident when people were talking but definitely noticeable during lulls in the conversation, and friends reported a slight echo. That said, it wasn't anything bad enough that we had to end a call, and we were able to use an airline's voice-automated response system without problem. As for the speakerphone, there were some problems in terms of volume. Calls were hard to hear at midlevel but when turned up to full volume, the sound was blown out, so it wasn't great either way. We successfully paired the E75 with the Logitech Mobile Traveller Bluetooth headset and the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones.
Overall, the E75 was quite responsive in terms of general performance. We didn't experience any dramatic lags when launching or using applications, and the system was quite stable during our testing period. Despite the Flash support, we found the E75's browser to be a little clunky compared with the competition. Also, the page load speeds weren't all that impressive over AT&T's 3G. CNET's page took over a minute to fully load, while CNN's mobile site took 30 seconds.

REVIEWS:-
Unfortunately, when you've got an overhyped phone like this, there's bound to be some disappointments. First, the N95 does not work on the United States' 3G network (namely, Cingular/AT&T's HSDPA network) for high-speed Web browsing and data transfer, which is a major disappointment. Also, all of the phone's features take a toll on the device's battery and processor, as standby battery life was pretty sad and performance was somewhat sluggish. But do the pros outweigh the cons? Is it worth paying the $750 for the phone? Well, we're not 100 percent sold. We so desperately wanted to like this phone, but for that money, we want a device that can keep up with our demands and not require us to go running to the outlet to constantly recharge. Plus, we'd also like the see the inclusion of 3G. Still, we know there are the gadget lovers and tech enthusiasts out there that will plunk down the Benjamins for this high-end phone, and we can't deny that you'll get your fill of features. The Nokia N95 is available now unlocked (for use with Cingular and T-Mobile SIM cards) through Nokia's flagship stores, select wireless retailers, and online.

REVIEWS:-
The good: Slim, solid design; stainless steel construction; multiple dedicated buttons and shortcut keys; excellent tactility; HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stereo A2DP; generous 130MB of onboard memory; snappy performance.
The bad: Rose Steel version attracts fingerprints easily; preinstalled Quickoffice is read-only version; no front-facing camera for video calls; average image quality.
The bottom line: Simple is good, and that's what the E51 is. It may not have a fancy design, but the E51 excels in nearly all other aspects with a truckload of connectivity features, good performance and attractive price point for an enterprise phone.
Nokia E51 is smart, elegant and the ultra-thin phone, which adds greater simplicity to it. At first glance it looks like an ordinary phone, but dont get mistaken, its a classy phone. Nokia E51 is a stylish phone which feels very solid in hand. The design of the candy-bar handset is what, with which you cannot go wrong. It won't make a lump in your pocket. An all-round device, Nokia E51 is a best ideal for people who understand the value of time, who require reliable and multipurpose phone, also need to manage time effectively. Its easy to maintain and use. You ll spot the 3G legend below the signal meter for starters. The E51 is a compact device, and fit comfortably in the pocket. In Nokia E51 there is convenient service of one dial plan with which users can experience the email and messaging over mobile and connection to office phone also.
The E51 slim profile is adorable. Its safe designing makes it a hit. In Nokia E51 comes with the facility of broadband connections which can be access easily. As Gizmo, a Voice over IP application, is available free of charge, for Nokia Eseries customers. Users can take advantage of Gizmo application by downloading the application on mobile. The E51 phone supports HSDPA data, also their is wireless networks and internet telephony, too. The E51 is the leaner cell phone at 12mm thick, though: it sports a 2-megapixel camera, an FM radio, a web browser and a media player. The 2mp camera is sufficient for basic snapshots, but don't expect high-quality prints from it. Nokia E51 is loaded with rich functionality that business users require, like it have one-click access to email, contacts, calendar and the home screen. The fingerprints are attracted very easily on its glossy surface, but this problem user not face with elegant Black Steel version.
The E51 and 6120 classic both are almost identical (in terms of features also). This easy to use device is loaded with features, and it does not only for enterprise user, but also the mainstream consumer can also have it. Especially those who want to get noticed. Its capabilities and stylish outlook is being expected by customers in Nokia E Series. With Nokia E51 a mini-USB socket is provided, which is used solely for data. Nokia E51 has given polished look for business use and personal use as well. It provides multiple functions in such a thin, stainless steel device. When Nokia 6310i was launched few years back it was the best business phone, but today also many people still consider it the best. But E51 is also a strong competitor. Its not an ordinary phone. The Nokia E51 cell phone enables business users to stay connected, and operate whether they are on tour, conducting from their offices, etc. And also can keep in touch with their personal lives too.

Features:
The Nokia E63's feature set is largely like the Nokia E71, except it lacks GPS and is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera instead of a 3.2-megapixel camera. We point out some of the highlights and differences in the Performance section below, but for more information about the
Performance:
We tested the quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900; WCDMA 850/1900) Nokia E63, and call quality was mixed. To us, calls sounded great with good volume and clear sound. There was minimal background noise or distortion, but this wasn't the case on the other end. One friend said that the audio kept cutting in and out, so he couldn't fully understand what we were saying. I called him back two more times to see if it was a connection problem, and the call was dropped during the second attempt and sound quality only improved marginally on the third try. Another friend also reported lots of static and choppiness, while a third person said the call quality was fine. Surprisingly, the speakerphone offered better sound quality as callers could hear the full conversation without any type of disruption.
We successfully paired the E63 with the Logitech Mobile Traveller Bluetooth headset and the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones. Though there's no integrated GPS, you can pair the smartphone with a Bluetooth GPS receiver to get turn-by-turn directions. It's another accessory you will have to carry, but at least, it's an option. The E63 also support stereo Bluetooth, dial-up networking, file transfer, object push, and more.
Traditionally, the Nokia E series, which includes the Nokia E71, have been very business-focused and slightly on the pricey side, but the cell phone manufacturer is hoping to attract more consumers by offering its Nokia E63 at a lower price point. Announced for the U.S. market at CES 2009, the E63 is available now for $279 through Nokia's flagship stores in New York and Chicago. Compare that price with the E71, which goes for $500 unlocked, or any other unlocked phone, and you've got a pretty good deal, especially when you consider that the E63 offers a full QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and all the e-mail and productivity capabilities of the E71. The only thing you lose is integrated GPS, and you get a lesser camera. Of course, some of that value is lost now that AT&T has announced that it will offer the Nokia E71x for $99.99 with a two-year contract. Plus, the E63's call quality is a little spotty. Still for those who don't want to be tied down to a carrier and want the freedom of an unlocked phone, the Nokia E63 offers a good set of features for more casual users and at a more affordable price.
Design:
It'd be easy to call the Nokia E63 a thicker, plasticky version of the Nokia E71 and call it a day, but that would be unfair to the E63. Admittedly, we do miss the steel chassis and sleeker profile of the E71, but the E63 isn't an ugly beast. In fact, it's quite attractive and as a more consumer-centric device, Nokia brings a fresher, hipper look to the smartphone by offering the phone in red or blue.

It's worth noting that, as alluded to above, camera performance in dim conditions is less than stellar, as with virtually all phone-based cameras - there simply isn't enough light to produce good results on such a small CMOS sensor. Still, the N73 is no worse than other similar cameras and in fact I was quite impressed with results in pitch black conditions using the built-in LED flash, which is used both for auto-focussing and taking the actual picture.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. The N73 is a successor to the N70 in terms of form factor and looks, at least, with an almost identical form factor, size and key layout. It's light at 116g. There are lots of detailed differences though, many of which aren't necessarily positive, so bear with me while I talk you round the hardware.
The most obvious difference is the screen. It's a full 2.4" diagonal, the same fabulous display as in the N93 but thankfully this time not waving around on the end of two swivel joints. Resolution is 240 by 320, a definite improvement from the old 176 by 208 pixel standard, even though fonts do still look a little blocky on the large screen.
Away from the screen things are not quite so rosy. The overall construction of the N73 screams 'plastic' at the top of its lungs. The silvery keypad feels cheap, with a horrible ridged top to each numeric key and a joystick and surround that look as if they belong in your local 'pound' shop. Squeeze in the side of the N73 and you'll feel a distinct flexing, with an accompanying ghastly creaking noise. And to keep this noise company there's a rattle from the camera slider on the rear of the phone, which doesn't seem to have been made of sturdy enough plastic.
It's a fairly standard Nseries software bundle, with the viewer component of Quickoffice and Adobe's PDF reader. There's also Yahoo Go!, if you're a big Yahoo fan, though watch your data useage and battery life if you do use the application. There's also a completely pointless application shortcut to F-Secure's Anti-Virus, included presumably to do a favour to their fellow countrymen - guys, you're saying 'Hey, we've got a new OS and it's fabulously secure' but then also saying 'Err... better check out some anti-virus, just in case'. There's a mixed message here that could do with resolving.
I've been through something of a roller-coaster ride with the N73. My first impressions were awful, with the over-plastic feel and noisy case, plus tacky joystick and number keypad. But then I was completely bowled over by the stills camera and the pendulum swung in the other direction.
The N73 may yet be an adequate successor to the N70, provided the Gallery activation key problem is fixed in firmware and provided a little more attention is paid to hardware quality control back at Nokia's manufacturing plant. Other niggles, such as the low volume of the built-in Music player may have to be solved in a component change for future manufactured devices.
With the way firmware updates can significantly improve the performance and functionality of a device, especially in these days of DIY updating, it's tricky to give a one-off verdict. The N73 certainly has potential, and the form factor and general camera capabilities are extremely impressive.

It may be that the Nokia E series sometimes suffers from Jan Brady syndrome, as it gets overshadowed by a flashier member of its family--the Nokia N series (aka Marcia Brady). But the E series is just as bright and deserves some recognition too. Traditionally, the E series devices have been very corporate-centric and serious in design, but now Nokia is updating the line with the introduction of the Nokia E66 and Nokia E71, bringing with them a modernized look and a fresh set of features.
For this review, we took a look at the Nokia E71, which steps in to relieve the older Nokia E61i. What the company has done with the E71's design is remarkable, as it's taken the once-bulky smartphone and turned it into an incredibly sleek QWERTY device. You do lose a bit in screen and keyboard size, but we feel it's manageable. Plus, with its strong messaging, productivity, and connectivity features and solid performance, it's worth those little sacrifices. The only downfall is that it has yet to be picked up by a U.S. carrier, so your wallet will take a hit, as an unlocked version of the Nokia E71 will go for about $500.
Design:
The first thing you'll notice about the Nokia E71 is its design. It's noticeably sleeker and sexier than the Nokia E61i, sporting a compact frame that measures 4.4 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide by 0.4 inch deep and 4.4 ounces. The slimness is especially noticeable when you use the E71 as a phone, or just hold it in the palm of your hand. In addition, the handset has a solid construction with its steel frame. Our only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the back gets a bit tarnished with fingerprints and smudges.
On front, there's a 2.36-inch QVGA nontouch display with a 16-million-color output and 320x240-pixel resolution. The screen is a bit on the smaller size, but text and images look sharp. It also has a light sensing technology that adjusts the display's brightness depending on what environment you're in. A new feature that's not readily apparent from looking at the phone is the Business and Personal home screens. You can now toggle between two different home views, depending on whether you're at work or at home. In Business mode, you'll have immediate access to work tools, such as e-mail, the Web, and the file manager. After hours, you can switch to Personal mode and have your music and photo gallery a click away. Of course, you're not really "off" from work since you can easily switch back, but its a nice thought anyway.
Below the display, there's a standard navigation array of two soft keys, Talk and End buttons, and a four-way toggle with a center select key. In addition, there are four shortcuts to the Home screen, Calendar, Contacts, and Messages. You also get a full QWERTY keyboard. Given that the E71 is physically smaller than the E61i, the layout is a bit more cramped with less spacing between the buttons. Still, I found it pretty easy to use, though I do have small fingers. Customers with larger thumbs might want to give it a test drive. On the bright side, the keys don't have that squishy feel of the E61i; they give more of a satisfying, clicky tactile feedback.

REVIEWS:-
The Nokia e71x is sleek, affordable, has fun multimedia features, navigation, and runs the Symbian OS. You can do all the things you can on other smartphones including accessing office documents, send/receive email from multiple accounts, and surf the web all with an easy-to-use interface. The Nokia e71x is also a connectivity dream supporting IR, stereo Bluetooth, WiFi, and 3G connectivity. Oh, and did we mention it’s a world phone, too. If you’ve always wanted to try a smartphone or just want something different, the Nokia e71x is worth a look.Design & Features:
Look and Feel: There’s no denying that the Nokia e71x is just good looking. It sets itself apart from the full QWERTY pack of smartphones on the market with its slim profile and stainless steel back. Although, it has such a tough back, that doesn’t mean it’s ultra durable. It also feels great in the hand. On a hot day, just holding the Nokia e71x can cool you off. Adding to the style is its minimalistic use of buttons on the smartphone spines. On one side there’s volume controls and the 2.5mm headset jack and on the other are slots for USB connection and a MicroSD card. On top of the smartphone is the speaker and a rather flashy red power button. As for the display, it is crisp and visible in bright sunlight. However, you might want to adjust the backlight setting. Out-of-the-box it extinguishes itself a little too quickly for our tastes. However, if you do change the backlight setting you may see a small adverse affect in battery life. While you’re at it you might want to adjust the lock time as well. While, it’s good that it self-locks when not used for a few seconds it can be distracting. The display is actually quite stunning and though you’ll want to touch it, don’t – this is not a touch-screen phone. As expected with a phone that has a screen that comes so close to the side of your face it does tend to attract face grease, so you might be wiping it off on your shirt or pants to keep it clean.Keypad: We particularly like the keypad on this cell phone. At first glance, it looks like the keys are a little too close together, but it doesn’t feel that way. There’s a curve to each key that helps keep them separate. Plus the letters on the white backlit keys are larger than those found on other QWERTY keyboard phones, so you don’t have to squint to see them. We did have people with both larger and smaller hands try out the keyboard and both had a similar experience. Another plus about the keyboard is the placement of the numbers: they are smack in the center and accessing them via the shift-like key is comfortable and intuitive. Navigating through the menu is done vie the 4-way silver rocker that encircles the black OK or Select key in the center of the device.
Usability & Performance:
Calls and Speakerphone: Call quality on the Nokia e71x is loud and clear, even in places where it’s typically hard to hear callers. For example, in a windy environment, callers still came through just fine. We’re also happy to report we never had to use the side volume keys to adjust audio on this cell phone, and the speakerphone works well, never cutting off when two people speak simultaneously.Audio Playback: The Nokia e71x sports an MP3 player. We found playback of MP3s and streaming music over the Nokia e71x speakers to be loud and clear, though occasionally tinny. This smartphone sports a 2.5mm headset jack, so you’ll need to use cell phone-compatible headphones or a pair of stereo Bluetooth headsets if you want to listen privately.
Music: The smartphone supports MP3, AAC (Apple iTunes format), and Microsoft WMA music files. As for music player features, it has shuffle, repeat, playlists, and an equalizer with predefined settings. Getting music onto this Nokia is fairly straightforward. If you’re using the Nokia PC Connectivity Suite you just select music and follow the prompts. You can also use Windows Media Player to sync music as well.As noted, the Nokia e71x has an MP3 player, however, this smartphone only has 130MB of memory on board, which is shared amongst all the applications. If you really want to use this smartphone as a MP3 player, we recommend getting an external MicroSD card for storing songs. The Nokia e71x will accept up to an 8GB MicroSD card – not as big as what is supported by other cell phones on the market, but still that’s plenty of extra storage space.
Connectivity/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/IR: Talk about connectivity; the Nokia e71x is fully loaded. If you can’t connect one way, there’s bound to be another option. For starters, this cell phone has IR, so you can use it to exchange info with other IR-enabled devices such as Palms or older notebooks. There’s also Bluetooth so you can connect it to your computer as well. We had no problem transferring files via Bluetooth with a PC and we were also able to connect it to a Jawbone headset with ease (call quality was great, by the way). Perhaps our favorite connectivity feature in this cell phone is the inclusion of WiFi. If you can’t get a wireless connection or don’t have a data plan, you can always use WiFi. Plus, whenever you’re connecting to the Internet you can be prompted as to how you’d like to connect and available connections appear on the screen. You simply select the one you want. Honestly, the 3G connectivity on this smartphone is so fast, we never found a need to connect via WiFi.
Battery Life: We’re happy to report that the Nokia e71x battery life is impressive. Heavy texters, Web surfers, message addicts, constant callers, and videographers will likely need to charge the cell phone every two to three days. But if you use the cell phone to send/receive a few text messages and e-mails, snap some pics, or make a couple of calls, you’ll need to charge it every three to four days. Leaving WiFi or Bluetooth activated didn’t drain the battery life, but streaming videos did. However, you can always charge the phone when it’s connected to your PC via the included cable.
